Cow infertility refers to the fact that primiparous cows still do not appear estrus mating after reaching the appropriate age mating age for 3 months, and postpartum cows still show temporary or permanent inability to conceive after 3 estrus cycles for mating or fertilization. Infertility can lead to a significant increase in the interval between births, a decrease in the number of calves, and serious damage to the economic benefits of cattle farms and cattle farmers, and should be treated. Here's a look at the specific reasons for the common treatment of infertility in cows.

1. Causes of occurrence

Cow's own factors. Congenital infertility, that is, due to congenital factors caused by poor uterine development, such as uterine horns are too long, too thin, sometimes the entire uterine horns will be straight cylindrical, cervical mouth can not be opened, until the use of drug stimulation at the age of 3 still can not open; Ovary is too small, only the size of soybean grains. Physical infertility, that is, cows after two births, easy to lead to body condition is too fat, causing ovarian cysts, making it often estrus; body condition is too thin, most of them can not ovulate, and estrus signs are not obvious.

Nutritional factors. Cattle obtain nutrition through feed intake, which is used to meet the needs of body growth, maintenance and reproduction. Feeding a single feed, or poor quality feed, etc., will lead to lack of nutrition in the body, showing too thin body condition, thus significantly delaying the initial estrus period of young cows, resulting in lack of estrus and abnormal estrus cycle of adult cows, which will lead to reproductive disorders and complete loss of fecundity in severe cases,.

environmental factors. In the natural environment, temperature, humidity and light will change with the seasonal changes, which can stimulate the reproductive endocrine system, resulting in a series of reproductive physiological reactions. Generally speaking, the hot summer climate will lead to a decrease in the rate of mating. In the northern regions, the winter climate is cold and most cows are in anemic period at this time. If the barn is located in the air, water, noise serious pollution area, can also affect the normal estrus of cows.

Disease factors. When cows are infected with certain diseases, such as ovarian cysts, persistent corpus luteum, endometritis, etc., can cause secondary infertility. In addition, if the breeders do not regularly take disease prevention and effective response measures for cows, they may indirectly cause infertility.

2. Clinical symptoms

Infertility caused by lack of nutrition. After the cow is pregnant, the embryo is poorly developed, and the abdominal circumference is not obviously increased, the fat condition is poor, the coat is sometimes bent and has poor luster. After 3 months, the wig of climbing across other cows sometimes appears, but it refuses to mate and a small amount of translucent gelatinous mucus flows out of the vulva. Through rectal examination, it was found that the cervix was enlarged, and there were mature follicles on one side, which were above normal estrus; some embryos of pregnant cows were difficult to implant, had weak anti-stress ability, and were easy to die in the early stage.

Infertility due to endometritis. Sick cattle will raise their tail arch back when in estrus, and often do urination and blame posture; There is a large amount of translucent mucus flowing out of the vagina, with poor fiber strands, often mixed with flocculent, emitting fishy smell, and adhesion at the tail root and ischium end, gradually forming brown-yellow dry scab, and some landing mucus will have obvious bubbles and cavities. Through direct examination, it was found that the cervical mouth was significantly thickened and the uterus became hard, elasticity disappeared; most of the uterine effusion, the organ increased significantly; poor maturity of follicular development, no obvious sense of movement.

Infertility caused by persistent corpus luteum. Back-up cows show a delay in estrus, usually after 1. 5~2.5 years of age or more before they appear in estrus; after 4~8 months or more after childbirth, some cows will appear hidden estrus; estrus can only last for a short time, low sexual desire, there will be no climbing phenomenon, and other cows will show "fear" and flashing phenomenon when climbing; the vagina has very little translucent mucus outflow, no fiber wisps, more difficult to find estrus. After mating and conception, some cows will have a wig after several months. Through direct examination, it is found that there are still "dry" follicles or cyst follicles on one side.

Infertility due to ovarian cysts. The disease usually causes the cow to appear estrus about 4-6 months after delivery, and the sexual desire is strong during the estrus period, resulting in madness. After climbing over other cows, the reaction is weak, the feeding is reduced at the initial stage, and the hair loses luster. There is a large amount of translucent mucus flowing out of the vagina, slightly yellow, and the fiber is poor. After 10 to 16 days of mating, the opposite will occur. If improved feeding management, some cattle will gradually heal themselves over several months.

3. Treatment measures

Symptomatic treatment. Endometritis, first rinse the uterus, often choose to use 0. 5% furacilin, 1% baking soda solution, 1% ~ 10% saline, 0.02 ~ 0.05% potassium permanganate, etc., rinse the temperature is appropriate to control at 40~45 ℃, dosage is controlled at 500~1000 mL, rinse once a day or at intervals of 1 day, until the discharge is completely transparent. If the sick cow is in estrus and the cervix is not open, the catheter can be inserted directly through the vagina for flushing. If the cervix is closed tightly, estrogen can be used first, and the cervix can be flushed after it is relaxed and opened. If there is uterine hydrops or uterine pyometra, the fluid accumulated in the uterus should be discharged before flushing. After flushing, to combine the actual situation to inject into the uterus by antibiotics, sulfanilamide, nitrofurazone or other disinfectants prepared into the water, suspension, water-oil emulsion or oil, etc., the dosage is usually controlled at 20~40 mL. Durable corpus luteum, sick cattle can be intramuscularly injected with 5-10 mg prostaglandin or 0. 5-1 mg cloprostenol once, usually effective within 1 week, if there is no effect, it can be injected once after 7-10 days. Follicular cyst, sick cattle can inject 10 million IU chorionic gonadotropin intravenously and 10 mg progesterone intramuscularly for 14 consecutive days. According to the appearance changes, if the symptoms are relieved or effective, the medication should be continued until complete recovery.

Strengthen feeding management. Ensure a balanced diet to stimulate appetite and avoid negative energy balance. The cattle barn is kept well ventilated and the humidity is low. In summer, strengthen cooling and heatstroke prevention, winter to strengthen the cold and warm, and supply enough light. Develop a reasonable disinfection system, the environment, enclosure should be regularly disinfected.
