Beef cattle claudication refers to a kind of disease caused by dysfunction of limbs. The etiology is more complicated. For example, drinking water and feed contain less phosphorus, resulting in an unreasonable ratio of calcium and phosphorus, or infection with certain parasitic diseases and infectious diseases. The disease can be clinically divided into three types: limp, limp and mixed claudication. If there is no timely and effective treatment, it will develop into chronic diseases, and even make it form disability, resulting in a significant decline in economic benefits.

beef cattle lamenessRefers to a class of diseases caused by dysfunction of the limbs, the etiology is more complex, such as drinking water,Feed contains less phosphorus, resulting in calcium, phosphorus ratio is not reasonable, or infected with some parasitic diseases and infectious diseases. The disease can be clinically divided into three types: limp, limp and mixed claudication. If there is no timely and effective treatment, it will develop into chronic diseases, and even make it form disability, resulting in a significant decline in economic benefits.

01 Etiology analysis

Nutritional factors. Beef cattle limp is generally due to drinking water, feed contains more phosphorus or lack of calcium, so that the proportion of calcium and phosphorus is unreasonable and cause the disease. In addition, cows in the late pregnancy and lactation period are prone to calcium deficiency, which is due to the fact that the fetus has to take a large amount of calcium and phosphorus from the mother in order to meet the needs of growth and development 1-2 months before delivery, while cows need to secrete a large amount of milk after delivery to nurse calves, which contains more calcium leading to excessive calcium loss in the body. If calcium supply is insufficient at this time, the disease will be easily induced.

Environmental hygiene is too poor. At present, beef cattle are mainly kept in captivity, but due to the unreasonable and unscientific design of the captive, it is easy to lead to poor ventilation of the captive, resulting in a large amount of irritating gas in the captive. Due to the limitation of site factors, the area of built captive is too small, which makes it in an overcrowded state and lacks exercise for a long time, the above factors will seriously damage the cow's hoof. Under this premise, if the cow's hoof itself is relatively dry, it is very easy to crack the hoof. There are also some cattle farms due to poor drainage system, so that the enclosure often accumulates too much feces, resulting in infection of the tissues inside the hoof, and then lameness.

Genetic factors. The diseases of hoof claudication are hereditary to some extent, such as hoof leaf inflammation, toe torsion and ulceration at the base of the hoof. At the same time, if the cow hoof structure is poor, especially when the limbs are vertical, it is very easy to cause hoof claudication.

02 Types and characteristics

A limp, also known as a strut limp. The affected limb of the sick cow will not appear dysfunction when taking steps, but the pillar and load will show pain, thus causing the affected limb to land ahead of time, which is used to relieve pain. That is to say, the lame limb is mainly characterized by slow landing of the affected limb, short load time and short rear steps. This type is usually caused by diseases in the lower part of the limbs, such as painful diseases in the lower joints, bones, ligaments, tendons, and hoof and other weight-bearing devices. Among them, wrist and finger (toe) joint injuries are more common.

Hanging limp, also known as hanging limp, the affected limb of the sick cow will not show obvious pain when standing, but it is difficult to lift and extend forward, and pain occurs, which easily leads to the affected limb being unable to lift, inflexible, walking slowly and taking small steps, especially short steps ahead. Or the affected limb cannot be extended, showing dragging forward. It is mainly caused by diseases of the upper limbs, such as shoulder joints, elbow joints, hip joints, and knee joints, as well as diseases of the nerves, muscles, and auxiliary devices of these joints.

Mixed lameness, also known as mixed lameness, the affected limb of the sick cow will feel pain when it is extended, lifted and loaded, showing two steps, namely, lame and limp. For example, when the pain of stepping is more serious than that of forward extension, the main reason is lame, which is called mixed lame; when the pain of stretching is more serious than that of stepping, the main reason is hanging lame, which is called hanging lame. It is mainly caused by diseases of the upper joints of the limbs.

Special limp. Sticky steps, sick cattle show slow short steps, such as rheumatism, etc.; Tension steps, sick cattle show rapid short steps, such as hoof leaf inflammation, etc.; Intermittent lame, sick cattle in the process of movement suddenly appear claudication, and suddenly disappear, frequent attacks, such as habitual dislocation, etc.; Chicken lame, sick cattle show too high short steps, such as flexor tendon rupture.

03 Diagnosis

The diagnosis of the disease is more complicated, because a variety of diseases can lead to claudication, so it is necessary to make clear whether it is a disease of motor organs or symptomatic claudication, otherwise it is easy to lack understanding of the nature of the disease and miss the opportunity for treatment; in addition, for diseases of motor organs themselves, it is necessary to distinguish between limb diseases, systemic factors, or dysfunction caused by simple local lesions. In addition, for local lesions, it is also necessary to distinguish between mechanical disorders and painful diseases. This is because some diseases can cause lameness, but not pain points.

04 Prevention and Control Measures

Symptomatic treatment. Sick cattle should be supplemented with trace elements and vitamin D in time. 200-300 ml_ 100/sodium chloride solution can be injected intravenously once a day, and a course of treatment is 7-10 days. 300-400 ml_5% glucose calcium chloride can also be injected intravenously once a day. 10 mL vitamin D colloidal calcium can also be injected intramuscularly once a day. And increase the licking of licking bricks, etc., with preventive and auxiliary treatment effects. In addition, it is recommended to use organic hoof protection for cattle with serious hoof disease, which can be effective after continuous use for one week. The affected part of the sick cattle should be scrubbed with clean water first, the affected part should be cleaned, the rot should be removed, then the stock solution should be sprayed, the scab will form in 3-4 days, and most cattle will recover in 7 days (hoof bath solution must be used while keeping hoof hoof hoof health)

Strengthen feeding management. Ensure that the barn is well lit and properly ventilated. Pay attention to strengthen summer heat prevention, winter pay attention to strengthen the cold. The ground of the enclosure can be properly raised, and the sports ground and cow bed bedding can be leveled. To prevent the hoof serious wear and sharp foreign body stab, avoid the hoof a long time soaked in fecal sewage, so as to effectively prevent the disease. Bathe hoof regularly, preferably 1-2 times a week.
