Paralysis of sheep production is one of sheep diseases, also known as milk fever or hypocalcemia, is an acute and serious neurological disease. It is characterized by pharynx, tongue, intestinal and limb paralysis, loss of consciousness. Both goats and sheep can be diseased, but goats are more common. In particular, some 2-4 high-yielding dairy goats have repeated the disease almost every time they give birth. The disease occurs mainly in adult ewes, during the prenatal or postnatal days, and occasionally during other periods of pregnancy.

01
Pathogenesis
Sheep feeding, high milk yield and good nutrition at the end of pregnancy, if the feed is too rich in nutrition, can become the cause of the disease.
Because blood sugar and blood calcium decreased. According to the determination, the sugar and calcium content in the blood of sick sheep are reduced, which may be because a large amount of calcium is excreted with colostrum, or because the calcium content in colostrum is too high. The reason is that calcitonin inhibits the osteolysis of parathyroid hormone, so that the regulatory process can not adapt, and become a low calcium state, causing the disease.
It is generally believed that production paralysis is a disease that occurs due to excessive tension (inhibition or failure) of the nervous system, especially due to excessive tension of the cerebral cortex to receive impulses, resulting in reduced regulation. The impulse here refers to the baroreceptors and chemoreceptors from the reproductive organs and other internal organs directly or indirectly involved in the childbirth process.

clinical symptoms
The first symptoms usually appear after delivery and, in a few cases, at the end of pregnancy and during delivery. Because the role of calcium is to maintain muscle tension, so in the case of low calcium blood disease sheep general performance for weakness. At the beginning of the disease, the whole body is depressed, the appetite is reduced, the rumination stops, the hind limb is weak, the gait is unstable, even the swing.
Some sheep stoop and waddle. Breathing is often accelerated due to trembling and inability to rest quietly. The duration of these initial symptoms is usually short. Thereafter the sheep stood unsteadily and fell while attempting to walk. Some sheep have difficulty standing up after falling. Some can not stand up, head straight forward, do not eat, stop defecation and urination. The skin reacts weakly to acupuncture.
A small number of sheep completely lost consciousness, the occurrence of very obvious symptoms of paralysis. The tongue hangs out from the half-open mouth and the throat is paralyzed. Needle pricked skin no reaction. The pulse is slow and weak at first, then faster and barely palpable. Breathing deep and slow. In the later stages of the disease, the mouth is often used to breathe, and saliva is blown out with exhalation, or food is discharged from the nostrils. Sick sheep often lie on their sides, with their limbs straight, their heads bent over their chests, and their body temperature gradually drops, sometimes to 36°C. The skin, ears and horns are cold, much like dying.
Some sick sheep often die without obvious symptoms. For example, some sheep are perfectly healthy at night, but die the next morning.

Diagnostic measures
At necropsy, no special lesions can be seen, and the only accurate diagnosis is to analyze a blood sample. But because the course of the disease is very short, the diagnosis must be based on the observation of clinical symptoms. Breast ventilation and calcium injection effect is significant, can also be used as the basis for the diagnosis of the disease.

prevention and control measures
1) Prevention:
According to the dynamic changes of calcium in the body, in practice, feed ingredients should be considered to prevent the occurrence of this disease.
⑴For sheep who are accustomed to the disease, the following drugs should be used for preventive injection as soon as possible after delivery: 40-60 ml of 5% calcium chloride, 80-100 ml of 25% glucose and 5 ml of 10% ammonium sodium coffee are mixed and injected intravenously once.
(2) 15-20g of sucrose was given daily before delivery and within 1 week after delivery.
Proper exercise should be maintained before delivery. But not excessive exercise, because excessive fatigue is easy to cause the disease.
A mineral-rich feed should be given throughout pregnancy. pay attention to the supply of balanced nutrition,Due to the individual differences in the absorption function of sheep, it is recommended to use the Lodge lick brick to supplement, and the sheep are free to lick.
The only licking brick containing calcium and phosphorus
high phosphorus high calcium
Phosphorus-rich lodge is a balanced formula mineral lick brick, specially designed for ewes. The high content of phosphorus (10%) helps to supplement the phosphorus loss during milk production. This licking brick can also be used as a supplement to low phosphorus forage (such as silage grass and kale).Low phosphorus content in the feed leads to a high rate of ground conception and a high rate of rebreeding.Phosphorus, along with 8.5 percent of that calcium, contributes to strong bone growth.
phosphorus rich rocky lick brick significant efficacy:
1: Solve the problem of maternal reproduction (for example, long interbirth time, repeated mating infertility, frequent abortion)
2: extend the peak period of lactation; improve milk production.
3: Extend the life of female animals
4: Improve the comprehensive health index of sheep and reduce the incidence (e. g. mastitis, hoof disease).
5: Pica disappears (gnawing wood, licking hair, licking urine, gnawing plastic) and the fur is smooth.
6: to promote food digestion, improve feed utilization, saving concentrate.
2. Treatment measures:
(1) calcium method. Intravenous or intramuscular injection of 50-100 ml of 10% calcium gluconate, or the following prescription: 60-80 ml of 5% calcium chloride, 120-140 ml of 10% glucose and 5 ml of 10% sodium caffeine are mixed for one intravenous injection.
(2) the use of breast air method. Make the sheep slightly supine posture, squeeze out a small amount of milk; wipe the nipple with alcohol cotton ball, especially the nipple hole. The boiled sterilized tube is then inserted into the nipple and air is pumped through the tube until the breast is filled with air.
A person who has a drum sound when tapping the skin of the breast with a finger, a sign of being filled with air. Air is injected into both halves of the breast; in order to avoid the escape of the incoming air, when removing the catheter, the nipples should be pinched with the fingers and the base of each nipple should be gently tied with a gauze bandage. The bandage was removed after 25-30 minutes.
After injecting air into the breast leaves, carefully massage the breast for several minutes. Then make the sheep curled up on all fours and rub the hips, waist and chest with grass bundles, and finally cover with sacks or cloth to keep warm. After injecting air, 100 ml of 50% glucose solution can be injected according to the situation. If the situation does not improve after 6 hours of air injection, breast air supply should be repeated.
(3) Other therapies.
① Phosphorus supplement: when calcium supplement, sick sheep are alert and lively, and when they are unable to get up, they are often accompanied by severe hypophosphatemia. At this time, 100 ml of 20% sodium dihydrogen phosphate solution can be applied for intravenous injection.
② sugar: with the supply of calcium, the content of insulin in the blood quickly increase and reduce blood sugar, sometimes can cause hypoglycemia, so calcium should be supplemented at the same time sugar.
In the breeding industry, it is very necessary to master the prevention and routine diagnosis and treatment of common sheep diseases, which can effectively reduce the risk of breeding and improve the efficiency of breeding. The prevention and treatment of sheep diseases must be based on "prevention first, prevention is more important than cure", and the management of feeding must be strengthened,Strictly implement the sanitation and epidemic prevention system, implement various comprehensive prevention and control measures, and closely integrate breeding management with epidemic prevention and control work to achieve comprehensive effects of disease prevention and extermination.
